The Punta Tombo Protected Area was established in 1979, covers a total area of 210 hectares, and can be visited from September to April. The coastline is considered an intangible area, and during February, it is populated by penguin chicks practicing swimming, especially in the small pools left by the receding tide. Leaving Puerto Madryn and heading south on National Route 3, after traveling approximately 190 km on paved and gravel roads, we arrive at Punta Tombo, the largest continental reserve of Magellanic Penguins (Spheniscus magellanicus). This incredible place is home to tens of thousands of Magellanic penguins, which arrive every year from September onwards to nest and raise their chicks. To observe the wildlife, it is important to respect the clearly marked trails. On the return trip, we head to Isla Escondida, a pristine beach that is a refuge for elephant seals.
From there we will begin our return to the city of Puerto Madryn.
