Lalibela, Ethiopia

Lalibela's eleven rock-hewn churches carved downward from living stone create a subterranean Jerusalem, their crypts cool and candlelit, their courtyards alive with pilgrims during Ethiopian Christmas. Faith and geology collide in the Roha highlands.
