Organic Wine Tasting of Rare Grape Varieties

La Méchinière

Our eight grape varieties, half of which are rare and some dating back to pre-phylloxera vines planted before 1890, make La Méchinière, a small family estate, a unique showcase in the Cher Valley. Our pruning is sustainable, our harvesting is done manually, and our vinification is natural. Growing from a healthy and respectful terroir, our organic wines come in four colours: white, amber, pink and red, bearing both AOC Touraine and Vins de France labels, expressing the true nature of each variety, free from artificial additives. On our ten hectare vineyard, we cultivate: - Orbois and Chenin grown side by side since pre phylloxera times, planted prior to 1890; - Sauvignon blanc and Fumé gris (rose sauvignon); - Gamay; - cabernet Franc; - Cot (malbec), including one row using traditional methods known as "provignage"; - And pineau d’Aunis, now very scarce in our region. To sample these wines is to discover authentic flavours reminiscent of ancient varietals found throughout the Cher Valley. Sit down, breathe them in, savour them slowly while immersing yourselves in the rich heritage behind every vintage through an engaging conversation with the vintner. Why not extend this experience with a leisurely walk alongside the unspoilt riverbanks? Duration tasting session: five wines – duration approximately one hour Purchase available onsite Language spoken: French, English, German Self contained cycles and motorhomes can be accommodated upon request (with water supply points, electric hook ups and toilet facilities). We will gladly work with larger parties or individual visitors outside normal opening hours to create bespoke experiences tailored specifically around your needs. Valérie et Louis Forgues
