Nurek - The Mountain Lake

Your introduction to Nurek begins with a visit to the museum located at the hydropower plant. Here you will see: • models of the dam and equipment, • archival photographs of the construction process, • technical diagrams and engineering solutions, • historical materials on the role of the HPP in the region’s development. The museum allows you to better understand the scale and uniqueness of Tajikistan’s largest energy facility. Here you will see the famous 304-meter dam — the tallest embankment dam in the world. The Nurek Hydropower Plant has an installed capacity of 3,000 MW and generates about 75% of all electricity produced in Tajikistan. From the dam, you can enjoy impressive views of the gorge and the beginning of the reservoir. By prior arrangement: a boat trip on the reservoir is available (for an additional fee).
