Pottery Village of Margarites - The monastery of Arkadi & The Gorge of Patsos (St Antonios)
Explore Margarites, the famous village of potters where our friend Yorgos will be waiting for us to offer us a small demonstration of its art! Then we will enjoy a quick coffee and then we will continue to Arkadi , the most famous monastery of Rethymnon region. At the end of the day, we will explore a magnificent small gorge before a well - deserved lunch at a local taverna! Participants that are staying at a 12 km radius around Rethymnon city will enjoy free transportation (for participants outside this distance, transportation can be organised with an additional charge). An English speaking guide will be with you (excursion available in French and Spanish as well). At the end of the day you will leave full of knowledge, food and memories!
A Taste of Nature: The Cretan Way of Life
Leave the seaside for a day and enjoy a journey into the real Crete. Our first stop will be at a historic monastery. Then, we will meet the shepherd Mr Andreas who will show us his flock and explain everything about his work over a traditional Cretan shepherds’ snack. The third stop will be with his wife, Mrs Eleni who will demonstrate her expertise in beekeeping. To complete this trip, we will dine with this lovely couple in their home to experience true Cretan hospitality. In short, simply feel, savour and share. **Included:** Hotel pick-up and drop off (within Rethymnon district within 12 kms of our offices), local guide/driver in an air conditioned vehicle or mini coach; entrance fee to the monastery; meeting a shepherd and a beekeeper; lunch (with vegetarian options available).
Wine and Olive oil Tasting with lunch at Apokoronas (from Rethymno)
Travel in Apokoronas and discover our unique local products! Start with the process of olive oil production, the king of Cretan cuisine, at a family-owned olive oil mill! Then, take a 30-minute guided tour to one of the area’s renowned wineries, where you'll sample various Cretan wines. Finally, no visit to Crete would be complete without enjoying a traditional meal; today, savor a hearty lunch at one of the numerous authentic taverns! For those within a 12km radius of Rethymno town, transport is provided complimentary (for guests further afield, we can arrange travel services for an extra fee). Your knowledgeable English-speaking guide will accompany you on your journey throughout the experience (excursion also offered in French or Spanish upon request). Hands-on cooking experience in a beautiful garden near Rethymno
The wood oven is hot and waiting for you! Together with your host, you will prepare some of the most typical Greek dishes and discover the ingredients only found in Crete! The aroma of fresh basil and ripe tomatoes will linger long afterward! While the food is cooking, enjoy a glass of wine or raki around the swimming pool. Then time to enjoy the fruits of labor! A meal all together with lots of laughter, Greek style! Participants will have to drive a short 20 minutes from Rethymnon at the village of Pigi where our English speaking guide (excursion also available in French and in Spanish) will be waiting for you! You will have all the necessities for cooking and you will leave with a booklet of the recipes!
Rethymno Walking & Gastronomy Tour
You begin your tour with a discovery of a kafeneio (a traditional café), where you can enjoy an excellent cup of authentic Greek coffee along with a delicious home-made treat. Your journey continues to a little tavern where you'll get to sample Crete's favourite tipple - Raki – which has between 30% and 40% alcohol content; also try their selection of olives and honeys. Next up we head off to watch Mr George make his famous Kataif and Baklava using time honoured methods. And who knows? Maybe he might even let us join him for part of the process... Don't miss out though because they sell these treats too so why not indulge yourselves and pick up one or two slices each. To round things off our culinary adventure ends back at another lovely taverna right in the centre of Old Town Rethimnon serving all sorts of regional specialities giving everyone yet another chance to delve deeper into what life was like here years ago when everything moved slower but there were no worries just simple pleasures such as sharing food over long conversations under starry skies.
