Dushanbe is the vibrant capital of Tajikistan, a city of republican significance and the beating heart of the country. It is the largest scientific, cultural, political, economic, industrial, and administrative centre in the entire country! Dushanbe is home to the highest state authorities in Tajikistan, including the President's lavish Presidential Palace residence. The city is also home to the highest flag in the world, which has been included in the Guinness Book of Records! With a population of over a million, Dushanbe is a bustling metropolis.
The precise origin of the ancient settlement on the territory of the modern city is unclear. However, research conducted on the territory of Dushanbe has revealed the existence of various household items belonging to ancient people who lived here at the end of the Stone Age, in the Neolithic era, in the 4th-3rd millennium BC. These items are currently on display at the National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan in the centre of the country.
