The Ramon Crater 4X4 Tour

Desert-Prime · Mitzpe Ramon

When people hear the word “crater,” they automatically envision violent meteorite impacts and giant round holes in the ground, but the Makhtesh Ramon Crater is something entirely different, as it was not created as a result of impact, but rather through a very unique process of erosion. Only seven such erosion craters are known to exist worldwide, all of which reside in the Negev desert and the Sinai deserts, with Ramon Crater being the largest (stretching up to 40 km in length). For that reason, the correct term to describe it is not 'crater' but rather 'Makhtesh,' which is the Hebrew word for crater, indicating the uniqueness of this geological phenomenon. Our tour will take you through the breathtaking rock formations which are the results of different forces and materials coming together in a manner not seen anywhere else. In both English and Hebrew, an erosion crater is known as a "Makhtesh." The Ramon Crater is the biggest Makhtesh of its kind, and remains among a diverse number of Earth’s unique geological phenomena. The abundance of exposed geological layers in the Ramon Crater offers a unique window into the past. Diverse fossils are encountered here, and some of Earth’s oldest geological layers are exposed. Specialized desert wildlife and vegetation inhabit the area, and hidden water bodies are present. As you descend into the crater, you can already appreciate the dramatic scenery of an erosion crater. As you venture off the main road and into the Ramon dry riverbed,

Tel Aviv Highlights Private Tour

Zelkind Bible Land Tours · Jerusalem

Tel Aviv is far from being just a city gate to Israel. This dual city (Old Jaffa and New Tel Aviv) is an absolutely fascinating place that deserves several days spent exploring its wonders. Our thoroughly enjoyable full-day tour covers some of the most intriguing spots surrounding this captivating metropolis. Your journey begins in 4,000-year-old Jaffa. There, witness archaeological finds dating back to the era of the Pharaohs, architectural remnants from Crusader times, ancient mosques, and medieval churches. Follow evidence of Napoleon’s failed invasion, stroll through the narrow alleys of historic Jaffa, and explore the millennia-old Jaffa Port. From Jaffa, we head to Tel Aviv. Cross one street, and there lies the American Colony—another unique settlement established by a religious group from Maine who arrived with dreams of reestablishing their homeland ahead of the Messiah’s arrival. The next leg of our tour takes us to the quaintly picturesque Neve Zedek district, marking the very first Jewish neighborhood constructed beyond Jaffa’s protective walls. Continuing onward, your exploration delves deeper into contemporary Tel Aviv’s pulsating core centered around Rothschild Boulevard. Discover the harmonious blend of towering modernist structures alongside exquisite examples of Middle Eastern design and breathtaking Bauhaus architecture characteristic of what has been recognized as part of Tel Aviv’s “White City,” now listed under UNESCO’s prestigious list of World Heritage Sites. Time permitting, our final destination before concluding today’s adventure would be Sarona, once home to Germany’s Templar colonists long ago. The meticulously preserved homes reflect traditional nineteenth-century Germanic styles; indeed, the whole enclave buzzes with life beneath the wide-open sky.
