River fishing
Game Creek Guides LLC · Juneau
If you want to indulge in some freshwater fishing while also having the chance to spot bears, then this is the perfect trip for you.
Our stream fishing tour begins by picking up our guests at the Excursion Hub located at Ice Strait Point. Guests will board a passenger van for a picturesque drive through the town of Hoonah en route to the wilderness areas where Southeastern Alaska's rainforest splendor awaits.
The duration of the journey depends on the location of the salmon spawning grounds but typically takes between 20-40 minutes. Just the scenery along the road makes the entire outing worthwhile! Along the way, you'll share the narrow forest roads used by guided bear tours organized by various cruise lines; therefore, there may well be sightings of brown bears or other local fauna - don't forget to bring your camera!
Like all things Alaskan, the migration patterns of these fish species vary greatly depending on the seasons. During summertime, anglers might find themselves catching Dolly Varden char and cutthroat trout here. From late June until September, pink and chum salmon migrate past, followed later (from mid-August onwards) by silver salmon which continue their trek right through till October. Please note that due to conservation efforts aimed at preserving future generations, only "catch and release" methods are permitted within this designated area.
